well i also prefer to do it in Thailand.. having said this, the only reason that Singapore guys get their sak yant in the way they do is because that is the way they are being presented with it. Unfortunately not all Singaporeans can afford the time to go to Thailand and so they are glad to get the chance to receive sak yant from visiting masters. I do agree that sak yant is being seriously manipulated andcashed in on in singapore, but this is less to do with the masters than it is to do with those organizing the whole thing.
I have seen masters taking 300$ per person for a ruesi mask "korb kroo" ceremony, and offer to lay on a ruesi mask of any of up to ten different Deities. This is of course ridiculous, as a "Rang Siong" or "Tang kee" spiritmedium can not manifest a host of different Deities within his psyche, rather only one at a time. Any master who purports to be an emanation of multiple Deities is in my book most definitely a fandangler and a liar. As Sak yant becomes ever more widespread and heard of, so does it also occur that people take advantage of the situation to make a lot of money fast. The gullible will flock to such "Masters" whereas those with wisdom will take a detour.

Personaly i feel a lto for the Singapore people because there are many intelligent Buddhists there who have great faith, but alsomany doubts and questions. Many a time have Singaporeans askedme to clear up doubts about some things they may have seen or experienced in Buddhist centresand i did notice that in some places where all was not 100% well that some people were unsure, but did not dare to wonder much about it because they didn'tknow, or were not too familiar with the tradition. This leaves people wide open to deception, and i am sad to see that Singapore is one of the places where Buddhism is being seriously distorted and abused for commercial reasons. But this doesn't mean that Singapore doesn't have serious Buddhists, because it does. It is just that people are being fed more with superstition than with Dhamma. but then this can be said about sak yant almost anywhere, even in Thailand. I for one 9as i always have said) gotmy first sak yant because i thought it would influence me to become a better person. This forme is the real powerr of sak yant (to help me to focus on my practice), for i feel that it is the inner practice and trying to become a good person which empowers all things such as protection, health and luck. Transfromation only comes with effort, not by being a tripped out hedonist , get a sak yant and suddenly receive all the blessings possible then continue being a tripped out party animal. Nothing will come of a sak yant like that. The real magic comes with inner effort, respect and reverence for the yant, and a constant vigilance to be aware of oneself in daily life, and how one behaves. If we change, life will change.. but no tattoo in the world will change things for the better unless you work on your heart and fulfill the requirements of practice. But people wish for the easy solution. This is why magic charms are such successful business. Charms and magical means can help, but only if we collaborate with them by making an effort with ourselves..

ps: he invited me to come to singapoor for a tattoo in his shop.
lol, im not going to singapoor to get a tattoo from a THAI. i will get the tattoo in his samnak in thailand. for me thats the way. waiting in a line 6 hours to get a small tatto in 5 min. for me thats the real way. not paying 500 dollars for a full back piece in one day...
i like to hang out in the samnak/temple and help the master/ajarn/monk stretching, cleaning the samnak and chat with the other guys waiting.
the singapoor guys come, jump on first in line and go after tattoo every time...
